DIY Project – Fitting UV Shield Window Films

Measuring and Ordering UV Shield Window Films

Measure the windows included in your project and allow approximately 5 cm (2 inches) extra on all sides – this will allow the film to be trimmed accurately when fitting. Choose the appropriate width of your desired film (most of our films come in two widths) and calculate the length of film required.

To make this task easier we offer a Pre-Cut to Fit service via our online  Quick Quote facility (chose the ‘supply in pre-cut sizes to fit windows’ option in the Type of Service menu) or you can call us with your order (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm) on the number below.

Care and Maintenance of your UVShield Window Films

Once window film has been installed, it’s very common to see a slight haziness and/or small water pockets. This is a normal part of the adhesive bonding process called “curing”. Depending on the window film type and weather conditions, it may take up to 30 days for the window film to be fully cured. The curing process is slow because the remaining water used in installation must evaporate through the window film.

Heavy security window films take the longest to dry and will take longer for any hazy appearance to disappear.

Once the window film is dry and cured, it’s then safe for the window film to be cleaned. The best cleaner is a simple solution of water and a small amount of soap. Clean the window and then squeegee dry with overlapping strokes in the same way you would clean the outside of your windows. uv_shield_window_film_glass_cleaner_.jpg

You may also clean the window film surface with any normal strength glass cleaner. Products with ammonia will not damage the window film if used in reasonable quantities and if the film is not left to soak in it.

Do not use any abrasive cleaners, industrial strength glass cleaners and/or any other window cleaning tools that may scratch the window film. Remember, the surface of the window film is coated with a scratch resistant not scratch proof coating.
